- Tooth and mounth disease is one of the ten most frequently complained by the patient who had a treatment to a hospital, but there is a gap between the number of dentist and popolation in Indonesia. The ratio between dentist and population is under the established standard. To accommodate the lack of dentist number, it needs to make an expert system to diagnose tooth and mounth disease. This system is developed by using a combination through case based reasoning and rule based reasoning that formed in coupling model. The diagnosis system begins with applying CBR methods that generate solutions based on the largest similarity value from old cases and have a greater value than specified threshold value. If the similarity has a smaller value, then the reasoning would be continued by applying the RBR methods that uses certainty factor (CF) to handle the appearing uncertainties. The result of performed test indicates that the use of this combination able to improve the diagnostic. Based on test results performed to the 25 test cases, 18 cases are successfully diagnosed properly with CBR, and there are 23 test cases are successfully diagnosed properly by using this combination of CBR and RBR.
