  • Industrial competition is tough nowadays. Companies in one similar industry apply different strategies in order to compete and get bigger market share. The same thing happens in industry of informal education services in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province, especially the city of Pangkal Pinang. A big market potention has caused the increment in the number of companies of informal education services. Therefore, each company has to decide competitive strategies which are suitable with the situation and condition of the current market. Smart Learning Center (SLC) is one of the new companies in the industry of informal education services. To maintain their existence in facing the tough competition among other companies in the industry of informal education services, SLC must acknowledge the position and competitive abilities so that the right competitive strategies can be applied. The steps that should be taken are by analyzing (1) the company internal capacities such as financial resources, human resources and core competence, (2) the company characteristics of industry such as market scale, growth level, excess/lacking of capacity, industrial profit, and the needs of capital, and (3) competitive advantage through analyzing the threats that come from new comers, suppliers, buyers, substitute products or services and competitions among companies in an industry.
