  • Povidone iodine serves as a bactericide, fungicide, tuberculocide, viralcide, and sporocide compound which has been used in many research related with endometritis case in cattle. Endometritis is an inflammation on endometrium (uterine wall) and associated with delayed uterine involution. The goal of this research is to evaluate povidone iodine ability in curing endometritis on dairy and beef cattle, in less than 3 years old and 3 years old, and more than 3 years old. The goal is also to increase reproduction efficiency and the next reproduction performance. Six daily cattles and 8 beef cattle at local farm in Yogyakarta Special Regency were used as test material. The infusion of 2% of 200 ml povidone-iodine was given via intra uterine. The cattle which showed good estrous quality after had been cured then were artificially inseminated. Pregnancy check were checked 2 months after insemination and strengthen with USG checking. Estrogen value in blood serum before and after the treatment were analyzed by ELISA, and the blood serum were sent to Physiology Department, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Gadjah Mada University. The point that were used to indicate the successfulness of the treatment of endometritis with povidone iodine were estrous quality and the result from pregnancy checking. The observation result of estrus and the pregnancy checked were analyzed with descriptive methods. Results of the estrogen levels were analyzed by t-test method. The results of this study showed that intra uterine infusion of 2% of povidone iodine proved to be effective and efficient for the treatment of endometritis in dairy and beef cattles, at less than three years old and at three years old or more
