  • Most of the reinforced concrete bridges in Indonesia, which were constructed according to the Highways Standard issued by Directorate General of Highways, the Ministry of Public Works, has been built more than 20 years ago. Observatory data shows that overloads, that cause the bridges to damage or even to collapse, often happened. One alternative solution is to strengthen the girder by adding the longitudional steel reinforcement, which is then covered by self compacting concrete. The U stirrups can be employed as the laying support of longitudional steel reinforcement and as the shear connector. Accordingly, bonding agent is applied to guarantee the coherency between the old and new concretes. This research aims to explain the feasibility of bridge girder
