  • An excessive cholesterol and fat dietary can cause dyslipidemia characterized by increasing total cholesterol levels, LDL and triglycerides accompanied by decreasing HDL cholesterol. The continuous dyslipidemia condition may cause atherosclerosis and insulin signal disorders resulting in insulin resistance. The health problems can be overcome by treatment alternative using natural ingredients known have relatively small side-effects. This research is conducted to observe complementary effect of antidyslipidemia and antiatherosclerosis of curcumin combination isolated from Curcuma xanthorrhiza (Roxb.) with andrographolide. Curcumin was isolated by means of rhizome duct C. xanthorrhiza extracted using technical ethyl acetate and fractionated by chloroform p.a. furthermore recrystallizated and tested its purity using HPLC. The male rats Wistar were made insulin resistance and dyslipidemia by given fructose solution in dose of 1.8 g/kgBB and high-fat diet that is 2 ml lard and 2 ml duck egg yolks orally for 120 days. The effect tests of antidyslipidemia was taken by measuring total cholesterol level, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and HDL cholesterol of rats serum after the rats given the test compound treatment on day 7 and day 14 and the rats stated dyslipidemia and insulin resistance. Antiatherosclerosis effect was tested by measuring the fatty thick (foam cells) in the rats aortic wall of each group after 14 days of the test preparation treatment. The research results was obtained the curcumin yield of 1.67% b/b with purity levels of 73.72±1.04%. Combination of curcumin doses of 225 mg/kg BB and andrographolide doses of 4.5 mg/kgBB with ratio (1:3), (1:1) and (3:1) gave significant effect in lowering total cholesterol levels and LDL cholesterol of rats serum, and has effect of reducing the thickness of foam cells are formed as cause atherosclerosis for 14 days treatment of test sample but its effect did not significantly different with single compound administration of each test preparation.
