- In the history of human civilization, the insect has a very important role, such as pollinators and pests. The growth process of Chili plants (Capsicum annuum L.) can not be separated from the role of insects. It is necessary for research to create a database that contains information about the insects occupants pepper plant area. The purpose of this study is to inventory the diversity of soil surface insects and to know the potential status of the insects occupants chili plantation area. Sampling was carried out during 146 days in chili plants area in KP4-UGM in the area Kalitirto, Berbah, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Sampling methods using pitfall traps with a solution of 70% alcohol and glycerin in the ratio 9:1. There were 5 units sampling point used, 4 points placed at 4 corners farmland and 1 point placed in the middle of farmland. Data sampling conducted once every 5 days with a split between insects caught in the daytime period (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) with the night period (6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.). Data analysis was performed at the Laboratory of Entomology Faculty of Biology UGM and next verification of samples in the Laboratory of Entomology Zoology Division Research Center for Biology LIPI Cibinong. From the data analysis it can be indicated that the diversity of insects in agricultural areas chili is quite high, i.e. as many as 1272 individuals belonging to the 8 kinds of the Order with 87 types of taxa, diversity of insects in the area of pepper plants when the generative period (day 47 to 146 after planting) higher than the vegetative period (day 0 to 47 after planting), and other types of insects found in the sampling area potentially as herbivores, predators, pollinators, and decomposer.
