Reduction of soybean production was predicted due to the decreasing of land area and low productivity soybean cultivar. To overcome the limitation of the land area can be done by rotated planting between soybean and rice. Rotated planting between soybean and rice consistently showed that soybean plant could adapt and grow in saturated soil condition and showed increasing production. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of level of water table and soybean varieties to root nodules formation and growth of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill). This research used random complete block design (RCBD) with 5 replication, the first treatment was soybean cultivar and the second treatment was level of water table. The procedure of this research was seedling preparation, maintenance and harvesting. Soybean&#xE2;&#xFFFD;&#xFFFD;s seeds from 3 cultivar (Argomulyo, Wilis and Tanggamus) were planted in polybags filled with soil medium 6 kgs, then polybag were put into buckets. Buckets were filled with water at high water level of +5 cm, 0 cm, -5cm and -10 cm from the soybean age was 2 weeks. Maintenance was carried out for 8 weeks and the observed parameters were plant height, root length, dry weight of root, shoot, pod and root nodules, the amount of root nodules and pods. The results of this research were the highest soybean plants (179 cm) and the longest roots (80,3 cm) were found in Tanggamus cultivar and at - 10 cm water level. Argomulyo cultivar treated with -10 cm water level had the highest shoot dry weight (55,9 gram). The highest root dry weight (6,30 gram) was owned by Tanggamus cultivar with -10 cm water level. The highest root nodules dry weight (812,9 mg) was owned by Tanggamus cultivar with -5 cm water level while the highest amount of root nodules (56) was owned by Tanggamus cultivar with -10 cm water level. The conclusion of this research was that -5 cm and -10 cm water ground level was the optimum condition in growth and root nodule formation soybeans plant and every cultivar had different response to level of water table.</description><publisher>[Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada</publisher><date>2014</date><type>Thesis:Thesis</type><type>PeerReview:NonPeerReviewed</type><identifier> , MUHAMMAD HILMI and , Dr. Diah Rachmawati, M.Si.
