- Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is an important vegetable commodity as foodstuffs for most of Indonesians. It has many variations in shapes, colors and productivities. Every single of varieties has different shape and productivity. The aim of this research was to obtain an eggplant line which has the best fruit, quality and shelf life. This experiment was conducted in Jurug, subdistrict Getasan, Semarang district, Central Java and Laboratory of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta from June 2013 until December 2013. The lines consisted of Bandung, Ungu Yogya, Putih Yogya, Ungu Kaliurang, Hijau Lokal Malang and Gelatik. The lines were arranged in Randomised Complete Block Design with three replications as blocks. Five samples were observed for every single treatment in each block. The result showed that the eggplant lines which has the highest yield of fruit was Bandung line, the highest composition of vitamin C was found in Putih Yogya line, the shortest shelf life was found in Gelatik line, while the others relatively have similar shelf life.
