  • At present, the demand of woods is incresing. It cause the decreasing of forest indirectly. The alternative solution is optimize the use of woods, for example using the used wood beside of new woods. The aims of this research is to determine of physical and mechanical properties two kind of wood on two different conditions. The kind of woods are mahogany and teak wood, each type is consist of new and used wood. The raw material of wood is come from PT. Yogya Indo Global in Bantul, Yogyakarta. To determine the physical and mechanical properties of the wood, observed of variation on the type of wood and variation of the wood condition i.e. new and used condition. Testing was conducted on the pyiscal properties (moisture content, density and changes in dimension) and mechanical properties (modulus of elasticity and modulus of rupture). The result showed that intraction between type and condition of word is very influent to the value of spesific gravity of air dry, kiln dry density and radial shrinkage. The combination of the best treatment in this research is showed by used teak wood types with a water content of 10,668%, an air dry spesific gravity of 0,481, kiln dried spesific gravity of 0,508, the development of longitudinal direction of 1,761%, the development of radial direction of 2,365%, the development tangensial of 4,577%, the longitudinal direction shrinkage of 0.807%, the radiall direction shrinkage of 1,429%, the tangensial direction shrinkage of 2,346%, the modulus of rupture 545,865 kg/cm2, and modulus of elasticity 54616,84 kg/cm2.
