  • Insulation is required to separate two or more electrically conductive voltage so there is no electricity or sparks leap causing a short circuit. On transformers, transformer oil used as insulation and cooling. Dielectric strenght of transformer oil is influenced by many factors. One of them is contaminants contained in the oil. The purpose of this research is to investigate about the influence of the change of temperature on the breakdown voltage. To know the characteristics of transformer oil breakdown voltage, then applied high voltage AC testing with a frequency of 50 hz by using the electrode with 2.5 mm gap at 30°C, 70°C and 130°C. The results showed that variations in temperature affect the characteristics of transformer oil breakdown voltage. Breakdown voltage will rising when the temperature rising and the breakdown voltage will decrease with the increasing of the temperature on the oil.
