Daftar Isi:
- Oral cavity wound is encountered frequently in dental clinics. Simvastatin has been used for long as a common lipid lowering agent which was reported to have anti-inflammation effect. One of the important indicator of wound healing is the decrease number of polymorphonuclear leukocytes cells. This study would like to determine the effect of simvastatin application to the number of polymorphonuclear leukocytes cells on gingival wound healing process. Twenty four male Sprague dawley rats, which is consists of male rats, 2,5-3 month age, and its wieght are about 80-220 grams with punch biopsy wound at the labial gingival were divided into two groups: Simvastatin group that received a gel with 2,5% concentration of simvastatin and control group that was received a gel with 1% concentration of CMC-Na. The experiment was carried out during 7 days. At day 1, 3, 5, and 7 treatment, polymorphonuclear leukocytes cells was observed. The result of the study is, there is decrease in the mean number of polymorphonuclear leukocytes cells. At the first day, simvastatin treatment group was lower (60,77 ± 19,85) compared to the control group (119,69 ± 39,84). A significant effect based on an indicator of the number level of significancy 0,00 (p<0,05) on two-way ANOVA statistically pattern. In further means that there is a decrease number significantly of the polymorphonuclear leukocytes cells which caused by treatment of giving topical simvastatin. The conclucion of this study is topical simvastatin therapy decreased polymorphonuclear leukocytes cells in gingival wound healing process.
