  • The enormous natural resources in Indonesia are greatly potential to be utilized as energy sources in power plants, specifically on countryside without PLN electric network to fulfill the self-electric needs. One example of the application is a Pico Hydro Power Plant. The principal component of it is low speed synchronous generator. Itâ��s rarely found on the market, so scientists modify a common generator to make a low speed synchronous generator. Modified generator has to be characterized so its use can be optimized. This research studied how to characterize a modified synchronous generator by no-load test and under-load test to determine the optimal work range of generator. That characteristic is also compared to the previous generatorâ��s operational data. The result shows that performance of generator decreased by reaching the peak power only at 10.67 watt compared to 26.316 watt, and the efficiency is 27% compared to 57% generatorâ��s operational data. Optimal work range of the generator is about 4.19 to 8.46 watt with 142 to 154 volt work voltage.
