  • Background : There is a development in the epidemiology of diabetes mellitus for the latest 20 years. WHO predicted an increasing number of diabetes mellitus patients in Indonesia from 8,4 millions in the year of 2000 which becomes around 21,3 millions in the year of 2030. The growth of diabetes mellitus prevalence, makes early detection in society is needed because of the unhealthy lifestyle and poor diet practice. Purpose : This research aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and ethnic with diabetes mellitus case. Method : The research is observational with cross-sectional design. The sampel of this research is 129 staff of Universitas Gadjah Mada whom got medical check up in GMC Health Center. Research variable included physical activity, diet and ethnic. The hypotheses were tested by using statistical analysis of Chi-Square test, Fisherâ��s Exact test, and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Result : There is no significant relationship between physical activity and ethnic with diabetes mellitus case (p>0,05). There is no relationship between ethnic and intake of fat, protein, and fiber and also there is no significant relationship in the intake of energy, protein, carbohydrate and fiber with diabetes mellitus (p>0,05). There is significant relationship between ethnic and intake of energy and carbohydrate and also there is significant relationship in the intake of fat with diabetes mellitus case (p>0,05) Conclusion : There is no significant relationship between physical activity and ethnic with diabetes mellitus case.
