- This study discusses about survival strategies of the traditional market in Yogyakarta City. Conditions of traditional markets in facing the modern market expansion become the focus of research as a basis formulating survival strategies of traditional markets. Aspects to determining conditions of traditional markets is to assess the impacts of modern market expansion to the traditional market in Yogyakarta City, advantages and disadvantages of traditional markets against a modern market, the policy response against expansion of the modern market, and market trends in Yogyakarta City. The findings are, the traditional markets needs the efforts to maintaining their life in the middle of modern market expansion. The traditional markets has limitations quality of services to consumers and limitations infrastructures. To solve the impacts of modern markets expansion to the traditional markets are with improving quality of traditional markets services, include market traders, and infrastructure been the key sources of survival strategies traditional markets. To implementing of survival strategies traditional markets are involving the integration and collaboration of government, private, and society.
