  • Toxoplasmosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii that belongs to Subphylum Apicomplexa, Class Spozoa, Subclass Coccidia, Ordo Eucoccidiidae, Subordo Eimeriina, Family Sarcocystidae. The purpose of this research is to find out the toxoplasmosis pathological effects on hearts and brains of broiler chicken. 36 broiler chickens were used and divided into 3 groups. Chickens from group A and B were infected through injection of 500.000 T. gondii tachyzoites / per chicken. Group A was infected through intravenous injection, group B was infected through subcutaneous injection, and group C as control (non-infected). Hearts and brains organ were taken at necropsy after the chickens got embolism on day 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 26 post infection. Histology preparation samples were made at BBVET Wates and the histology examination was performed at Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UGM. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the pathological effects of heart (pericarditis and myocarditis) and brain (necrosis, hemorrhage, glyosis, demyelination, perivascular cuffing) in group A (12,5%) and group B (29,2%) but there were no T. gondii cysts found. The day that has the most pathological effects were the 26th day post infection with 30% pathological effects of all. As the conclusion, there were pathological effects in heart and brain of infected chicken, but there were no T. gondii cyst found. Keywords : toxoplasmosis, broiler chickens, heart, brain
