- Jaladara Rabi is written by Ki Reditanaya, and transliterated by S.Z. Hadistjipto, is one of wayang branch stories, or carangan. The whole story based on structure of the all night long shadow puppet performance. The main story of Jaladara Rabi tells about a commotion prior to Prabu Kakrasana�s wedding, involving a series of narrative events. This research focuses on the character�s motives of provocation and eloping (alap-alap) that unfold before Prabu Kakrasana�s wedding. The analysis in examining and studyingthe motive employs a narrative structure method by describing the story elements like characters, background, actions, events resulted from characters� actions, and relations between characters, and by looking at the motives of provocation and eloping. The results show the motive in Jaladara Rabi is shaped by the roles of the active characters that drive the plot forward. It results in the involvement of the subsequent characters that serves as a support in the structure of the causative events (action-reaction), thus producing some inter-characters relations as a frame on which the motive is formed. The provocation goes by demanding additional wedding conditions, while the eloping is done by abducting the bride, which is a form of one of the eloping traditions in Indonesian culture.
