  • The triggered to do reasearch on the character in this TIAMP novel was the unusual fact about a veri pious Moslem woman who finally chose to be a prostitute. Generally, living in a prostitution is viewed as a very pressurred way of life which, however in this novel, is vice versa. The character described and narated as âfoundâ peace and freedom instead. The main reason is because the woman find too much pressure in being pious that she seeks something that goes beyond norm which she considers as a freedom symbol of all moral pressure that burdening her. Being prostitue and ignoring the norms and moral value that set by society is her ultimate symbol of freedom. The researcher, in this writing, will try to elaborate this complexity in order to explain the existance of the pious woman, and writer responsibility in chosing the analogy. The reasearch itself is done by applying Jean Paul Sartre philosophy theory of existensialism. The connection and similarity of the concept of freedom, absurdity, and the desire to be their own âGODâ are seen very obvious in this Muhidin M. Dahlan novel. The complexity of a prostitute existance in society will also seen clearly by applying this Jean Paul Sastre theory about freedom, responsibility, misery, bad faith, and other people. One of the most important reasearch findings in this novel is the pious moslem woman who described as objectivied and judged by others, then chose to live as a prostitute to get her freedom and her self consciousness back. As what Jean Paul theory about sex, sex is viewed as deceiveness, which brings the do-ers into transcendence and facticity. Clearly in this novel Dahlan tries to deliver message about human freedom, freedom of chosing the way of life, freedom of chosing religious view and being fully responsible with those choices. Dahlan, uses TIAMP as social critics to what happened in the society nowadays, who seem really pious and idealist but actually are hiding their own secret decays behind the wall. Dahlan also criticizes society who seem concerning much to spiritual and moral aspect but on the other hand let themselves regulated and shackled by people who has power. For Dahlan, religiousity is a very personal trait, which only he/she himself/herself responsible for the choices he takes in life. Clearly, Dahlan is one of the norm standard free writer, hence it also gives the reader the same freedom in interpreting the writing.
