  • Hypertension has become a major public health problem in Indonesia as well as in several countries in the world. In 2025, cases of hypertension in Indonesia is expected to increase by 80%. Initially in 2000 the number of hypertension cases is 639 million and it will increase to 1.15 billion cases in 2025. This prediction is based on the current rates of hypertension and current population growth. This was an observational cohort study with retrospective medical record at Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta period January to December 2013. Sixty eight patients recruited in this study were hospitalization patients with primary hypertension, (35 patients were group of morning dose amlodipin and 33 patients were group of evening dose amlodipin). Primary diagnosis of the patients was hypertension and use amlodipin as single therapy. The results of the this study were systolic blood pressure fall of 24.89 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure fall of 5.42 mmHg for morning dose amlodipin, while the evening dose amlodipin resulted systolic blood pressure fall of 37.91 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure fall of 13.86 mm Hg. This result was significantly different with Ttest statistic analysis (P<0,05). Amlodipin as an anti-hypertensive better used at evening than in the morning because it produces greater blood pressure fall.
