- The dissertation researches philosophy of Siwalima by using Max Scheler�s axiological perspective and its contribution for strengthening social character of multicultural society in Maluku. Siwalima as cultural philosophy of Malukan people consists of two local words: siwa (nine) and lima (five). Siwalima is one aspects of local wisdom containing values which might be functioned for strengthening character of multicultural society in Maluku. The philosophy of Siwalima, which was united groups of uli/pata siwa and uli/pata lima as ancestors of Malukan people in the past, can be revitalized and functioned within societal life of contemporary Malukan people nowadays. Reality of multiculturalism of Malukan society today, on the one hand, is a potential possibility to develop Maluku, but at the same time, on the other hand, bearing a potential conflict and fragmentation if it fails to be managed properly. As it happened when social conflict erupted in Maluku from 1999 to 2004. Religions (notably Christianity and Islam) involved within the conflict and it divided the society into two oppositional religiousbased groups. The reality might be managed through cultural approach, in this regard through philosophy of Siwalima and commonly being accepted as one dimension of cultural identity of Malukan people today. Philosophy of Siwalima might be served as social capital to unite multicultural society of Maluku today and in the future through its living values. The dissertation aims to research, identify, found and to construct values within the philosophy of Siwalima as well as its contribution to attempts for strengthening character of multicultural society of Maluku. The study toward philosophy of Siwalima as material object in this dissertation, in terms of identifying its values, is conducted by using axiological perspective, specifically Scheler�s axiology, as formal object of the dissertation. It is applied by observing primary and/or secondary resources and interviews which are related to the objective of dissertation research objective. It also utilizes qualitative research method which consists of descriptive and historical methods. Collecting data is conducted by using literature data observation and interview procedures. Furthermore, the collected data is analyzed qualitatively through data reduction process, understanding, interpretation and inference, by applying relevant methods, namely verstehen, interpretation and/or hermeneutic, history and heuristic. As a philosophical research, the dissertation analyzes ontological, epistemological, and axiological bases of philosophy of Siwalima, which then resulting one comprehensive study. Axiological basis and analysis identify found and construct nine values of philosophy of Siwalima namely unity, consensus, humanity, social justice, religiosity, brotherhood, loving peace, living with differences, and harmony. Those nine values might be categorized into five fundamental and universal values: life, humanity, social, moral, and Lordship. These values then are structured hierarchically based on Scheler�s axiological perspective. Living values of cultural philosophy of siwalima might be used also to revitalize and to function as social capital to unite and to maintain the reality of pluralism and/or multiculturalism in Malukan people�s life today and the future.
