Daftar Isi:
- Chronic liver disease encompasses a large number of conditions having different etiologies and existing on a continum between chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis. Liver cirrhosis is characterized by fibrosis that results in the form of nodules and alter liver function. Lok Index score is non-invasive prosedure that can predict fibrosis. Hyaluronic acid increases with the progression of fibrosis and is associated with the degree of fibrosis and inflammation. Currently, there was no any data that showed the correlation between plasma level of hyaluronic acid and Lok Index score in patients with chronic liver disease in Indonesia especially in Yogyakarta. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a correlation between plasma level of hyaluronic acid with Lok Index score in patients with chronic liver disease. The study design was cross-sectional. Subjects were obtained by the consecutive sampling. The subjects of this study were patients with chronic liver disease who visited the clinic or hospitalized in Internal Medicine Department of Internal Medicine Hospital Dr. Sardjito, from February 2014 to April 2014 who met the inclusion and exclusion criterias. The correlation between plasma levels of hyaluronic acid with Lok Index scores statistically assessed with correlation test. Obtained 46 subjects who met the criterias, 31 males and 15 females. Mean age was 51 ± 12. The cause of cirrhosis HBV many as 25 (54.3 %), HCV 12 (26.1 %), HBV and HCV 1 (2.2 %), other causes of cirrhosis 8 (17.4 %). The mean of plasma levels of hyaluronic acid was 228± 40 Î1⁄4g/L, while the mean of the Lok Index score was 0.71±0.30. Spearman correlation coefficient between plasma levels of hyaluronic acid and Lok Index scores were r 0.649 (p < 0.001). There was significant correlation between plasma level of hyaluronic acid and Lok Index score in patients with chronic liver disease.
