- The damage of brick walls due to earthquakes often occurs in the form of walls cracks. One of the efforts to reduce walls cracks is by prestressing method. This study aims to observe the effect of reinforcement form of the wall due to the lateral force in the same direction of the major axis, the wall collapsing pattern and the wall stiffness. In this study, the test object is made of two pieces of wall measured 1500 mm x 1500 mm x 100 mm namely brick wall with prestressed reinforcement beam and columns (brick wall with stressing, DBP) and brick wall with non prestressed reinforcement beam and columns (brick wall without stressing, DBTP). Specimens were tested by static loading in the same direction of the major axis based on standard ASTM E 564-00 2003. Then the results of the test from each wall were compared with each other and being compared afterwards with the results of simple analysis using Microsoft Office Excel 2013. The test results of the ultimate condition refer that the capacity of the resistance lateral of DBP is 4392 kg, 15.61 % higher than the capacity of the resistance lateral of DBTP 3799 kg. Then, comparison of test results with simple analysis shows that the yield condition load of DBP occurs at 29.862 kN or 23.14 % less than the results of the analysis and the ultimate load reached 43.086 kN or 2,80% greater than the analytical results. Meanwhile, the test results of the DBTP shows that yield condition load occurs at 21.543 kN or 33.15 % less than the results of the analytical results, and the ultimate condition load reached 37.268 kN 6.82 % greater than the analytical results. From the pattern of cracking that occurs during testing, the collapse that occurred in the test object can be classified into Rocking Failure Mode (failure bolsters). Based on the test results, the stiffness value of the yield condition of DBP is higher than DBTP.
