- Unhealthy lifestyles in youth is one of the causes of the declining health of the body for a 40-year-old. With the arising complaints and illnesses, the world of medicine is growing rapidly. Nowadays people are starting to recognize other treatments beyond medicinal treatment. Medicinal plants can be used as an alternative treatment. Medicinal plants have minimum side effects compared to commercial drugs. But its low popularity for disease treatment often leads to inaccuracies in its use. The wrong use of herbal medicine because of wrong information or assumption will cause undesirable side effects. With the use of information technology, such problems can be resolved by using the ontology models for medicinal plants recommendation system. Ontology, which is the development of the Expert System, is a new idea in knowledge representation techniques. It is much more expressive than conventional knowledge representation techniques. The result of this thesis is a treatment recommendation system with the diseases and its symptoms approach, with above 40-years-old classification, using medicinal plants in Indonesia. The system is based on a desktop application that was developed using Netbeans 7.4 tools, while the ontology model was constructed by Protégé 4.3.
