  • The effects of sonication time on synthesis of MCM-41 and Si/Zn mol ratio on synthesis of Zn-MCM-41 by sonochemical method at room temperature have been studied. MCM-41 was synthesized from tetraethyl ortosilicate (TEOS) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as surfactant with Sur/Si mol ratio 0.16. The effect of sonication time was studied with variation of sonication time of 0.5, 1, 2, 3, and 4 hours, and the effect of Si/Zn mol ratio was studied with variation of Si/Zn mol ratio of 33.33, 50, 100, and 200. The effect of sonication time and Si/Zn mol ratio on synthesis was investigated from structural parameter of the synthesized material and its ability to adsorb methylene blue. The result showed that the addition of sonication time increased the crystallinity and pore regularity of the synthesized material. The optimum sonication time was reached on 3 hour. The optimum result of Zn-MCM-41 was achieved for Si/Zn mol ratio of 100. The optimum contact time on methylene blue adsorption with MCM-41 was 60 minutes, whereas Zn-MCM-41 was 45 minutes. The adsorption capacity for methylene blue on Zn-MCM-41 was 85.47 mg/g that was higher than that of MCM-41 which the adsorption capacity was 33.78 mg/g.
