- Diabetes mellitus (DM) or diabetes is a disease that can affect all strata of the society and is a chronic disease experienced a lifetime. Indonesia currently occupies the 4th position of the number of people with diabetes around the wo rld. DM is the chronic disease that can associated with susceptibility to mentally ill (depression). There are three main symptoms of diabetes known as '3 P ': a lot of urine (polyuria), lots of drinking (polydipsi) and plenty to eat (polyphagia). All three of these symptoms are directly related to high blood sugar levels. Because of loss of a lot of calories in polyuria, diabetes causes the sufferer loses weight. This type of research is observational with cross sectional design analysis. Subjects were patients with type 2 diabetes who came to the endocrine clinic in Dr. Sardjito hospital Yogyakarta done in consecutive sampling. The instrument used is personal questioner and the BDI (Beck Depression Inventory). Hypothesis testing using chi-square and logistic regression. The results of research did not get a significant relationship between duration of diabetes mellitus with the level of depression. Obtained two variables that influence depression is variable occupation and foot ulcer. Conclusion this research is the occupation variable of civil servants is protector factor against depression, the presence of the foot ulcer variable are risk factors for depression.
