- Domestic cat is one of the most popular pets. The growing interest in cats trigger to develop breeding with the aim of improving the appearance of this species. The purpose of this research are determine the mating behavior, gestation length, the number of copulation per day, litter size, and the fertility level of domestic cats in natural mating. In addition, this study also determine the effect of mating time to gestation period, the number of copulation, and litter size. The research was conducted on 56 female domestic cats aged from one to four years. Queens were divided into eight groups, each consisting of seven cats by mating time when estrus. Queens are mated with toms on days 1, 2, 3, 4, until the 8th day of estrus. Data are observed include cats mating behavior, gestation length, the number of copulation per day, litter size and the fertility level of cat. The results show the average sexual behavior of the entire group are vocalizations (71.43%), head rubbing (71.43%), lordosis (83.93%), the presentation of the vulva for mating by a wagging tail (91.07%), screaming during copulation (60.72%), striking out at the tom after copulation (75%), and rolling after copulation (78.57%). Gestation length gained an average of 58.9 ± 2.9 days calculated from the first day of mating and ranged between 55 to 65 days (n = 33). Number of copulation per day ranged from 2 to 8 times per day with an average of 4.2 ± 1.7 times (n = 52). Number of kitten per parturition (litter size) ranged from 1 to 6 kittens with an average of 3.4 ± 1.3 kittens per parturition (n = 33). The fertility level is measured based on a percentage of the queen who can pregnant and have delivered the kitten. The percentage fertility in each group from groups I to VIII are 42.86 %, 71.43 %, 71.43 %, 85.71 %, 57.14 %, 57.14 %, 57.14 %, 28.57 %. Effect of mating time on gestation period, the number of copulation per day, and litter size between groups were tested using One-way ANOVA with the result there is a significant difference between groups on the number of copulation (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, there is no significant difference between groups in gestation length and litter size (P > 0.05).
