- This study examines the strategies of households in facing of drought frequent in the village of Giripurwo , District Purwosari , GunungkidulRegency. Drought is a phenomenon that always happens in some villagesin Gunungkidul when the dry comes, and until now it is not solved cause of the lack of treatment. The objectives of this study are to identify the impact and household response in facingdrought , and to know livelihood strategies of household in facing drought in Giripurwo , PurwosariDistrict, Gunungkidul Regency.It is used case study , the method of data collection are done by the study of literature , field observations , and in-depth interviews . The number of samples taken depends on the limitedof saturation of information obtained from thefield. Drought takes great impact for households in Giripurwo , the real impacts are its hard to obtain clean water and its hard to cultivate agricultural land that is the main asset. This causes a change in a current job when drought occurs. There are 2 responses of household in facing drought: searching for water by buying and reducing water consumption. Households with high economic level do strategy on supply and households with low economic level do strategy on demand.
