- This study is aimed at describing the form of request utterances in bahasa Indonesiaproduced by Korean learners of Indonesian, comparing the utterances with the native speakers�, and explaining what causes these differences. The study applies descriptive qualitative method. To collect the data, questionnaires are distributed to 23 respondents consisting of 11 Korean learners of Indonesian and 12 native speakers of bahasa Indonesia. The data population was 276 utterances in the form of request utterances in various contexts. The data analyses, compares the data by the Korean and Indonesian speakers, and discusses the factors causing the differences. The study reveals that the Korean learners of Indonesian produce different forms of request utterance from the native speakers. The patterns of the request utterances can be seen in three different forms: the structure, the variation, and the strategy of the utterances. The structures of the utterances can be divided into utterances seen from presence, position of head acts and supporting moves. The variation codes of the utterances are in the form of utterances which have (1) formal and informal styles and (2) code switching in Korean and English. Whilst, the strategy of the utterances can be divided into (1) modes, (2) manner, and (3) types of the utterances. The difference between utterances produced by the learners and the native speakers found in the choice of formal and informal styles, strategy of request, semantics formula, and personal pronouns. The factors of request utterance differences used by Korean learning Indonesian are mainly caused by linguistics and non-linguistics factors. The linguistics factors are the impact of Korean pragmatics knowledge transfer and the imperfection of grammatical knowledge meanwhile the non-linguistics factors are cultural differences, Indonesian learning system, and habit of using informal forms in daily conversation.
