  • Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a malignancy in otolaryngology that has had significant attention because of its relatively high mortality. Post therapy evaluation is done by otolaryngologists in the management of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. A nasopharyngeal biopsy is painful, invasive, time consuming and can not be done every time a patient visits for evaluation. With the disadvantages of the biopsy which is then examined by pathologists as a gold standard, another valid diagnostic procedure should be considered, but that is a valid CT scan. The objective of this study determine the sensitivity and specificity of CT scanning for evaluation of response to therapy of primary tumors of NPC . The study design is a diagnostic test . Statistical analysis using descriptive test and chi - square . Twenty- nine patients with NPC , 8-12 weeks post-treatment complete , do a CT scan nasofarings are then interpreted by a radiologist . The results showed that the sensitivity of 44% (IK95%: 34% to 54%), a specificity of 53% (IK95%: 43% to 63%), positive predictive value 15% (IK95%: 5% to 25%), the value 84% negative predictive (IK95%: 74% to 94%), likelihood ratio for a positive test result (LR +) of 0.95, likelihood ratio for a negative test result (LR-) of 1.05. From these studies it was concluded that the CT scan can be used as a measurement tool for evaluation of response to therapy of primary tumors in nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, but to obtain valid results in diagnosing residual nasopharyngeal carcinoma biopsy is needed .
