- This study was conducted to determine the effect of Openness, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the upper middle income countries to Gross Domestic Product from 1990 until 2012. This study used a fixed effect model to estimate the model. The results obtained from this study is that openness has a significant positive effect on real GDP per capital, FDI has a significant positive effect on real GDP per capita, and the capital also has a significant positive effect on GDP real per capita. In other words, all the variables used in this study had a positive impact on real GDP per capita in the upper middle income countries.
