- Of the many various water treatment processes, filtration an important role in processing water because can eliminate about 67% of the treated water turbidity. Filters which operate too long and is not routinely held backwash can cause the amount of expenditures resulting filter media purchases that are not on time. The importance of a process on the performance of a filter backwash need a method that can clean backwash filtration efficiently. This study uses a filter tube PVC (polyvinyl chloride) with filter media from Progo sand. Filtration test performed using a set of tools filtration test for three hours. Filtration test was conducted using a sample of water that has a certain turbidity. After filtration test then backwash test with variations continuous flow and discontinuous flow. The results of this study is the efficiency of the filter obtained in reducing water turbidity samples the first study obtained maximum 93,37 % and increase to 95,76 % in third study. Effect discontinuous flow for the results backwash in this study can not be determined so that further research needs to be done. keyword: filtration, backwash, continuous flow , discontinuous flow, filtration efficiency
