- Mahoni (Swietenia mahagoni (L.) Jacq.) is one of many beneficial plants used by people in Indonesia for medicinal purpose, especially its seed. Therefore, aspect of quality and originality of its substance is become important to be known. This research�s purposes are to give general introduction in study of mahoni seed including macroscopic and microscopic appearance along with determining several standards of initial parameters that generally describe the quality of extract. Mahoni seeds were taken from Ponorogo, which was chosen because it has the highest amount of standard compound as compared to the others two. Standard compound�s amount was measured with TLC-Densitometry method. Mahoni seeds are divided into two part, one is used in macroscopic and microscopic analysis, the other is pulverized and then extracted with ethanol 70% to analyze the standard quality parameter. The result is : macroscopic analysis
