  • Waste management in a region is the responsibility of the entire community, both of government and society, as has been done by Gemah Ripah Fruits Market, Gamping Sub district, Sleman Regency, in the process of waste collection until processing, in collaboration with Waste Refinery Center UGM.This market was successfully done processing rotten fruit waste material into biogas that can be used to supply electricity for the market and to use as a Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) substitute for cooking. This program is very useful in reducing waste in accordance to Law number 18 of 2008 about Waste Management. This research was intended to analyze effectiveness of waste management for trial-system of waste to energy in Gemah RipahMarket and done by using qualitativequantitative deductive method of observation. The result of this research is that the waste management in Pasar Gemah Ripah not effective yet because it cannot fulfils the demand of electricity in the market. In order to fulfill the demand of electricity in the market required additional materials which can be obtained from organic wasteâs another market and livestock manure. This means it can be established in cooperation with another markets and the farms around Pasar Gemah Ripah. This program has good prospect if it can do continuously and the results can be used to substitute the state electricity. However, it will be necessary to allow the availability of raw materials, advanced technology, sufficient capital and qualified manpower.
