  • Angiogenesis or growth of new blood vessels is an important process on wound healing that can supply oxygen, nutrients, and cells of inflammation. Guava leaves (Psidium guajava Linn.) containing several compounds such as saponins, flavonoids, and tannins that can enhance the process of wound healing. The aim of this study was to know the effect of topical application guava leafâs (Psidium guajava Linn.) extract gel in the wound healing process of gingival Sprague dawley rats. This study was conducted to 27 male Sprague dawley rats aged 3 months with weight 200-250 grams. The rats were divided into three groups: treatment group (70% guava leafâs extract gel), positive control group (Aloclair gelâ¢) and negative control group (CMC-Na gel). All rats in the three group were injured at lower centralis incisor labial gingival using 2,5 mm diameter of punch biopsy, after that applicated twice a day, every morning and afternoon for 14 days and then its made to the histological samples using hematoxylin eosin staining. Angiogenesis was measured under light microscope 400 times magnification by counting the number of blood vessels on wound area in 6 fields of view. The result was analyzed by Two Way ANOVA and post hoc LSD (Least Significant Difference) test. The analysis result with Two Way ANOVA test (p<0,05) showed that there was a significant difference between treatment time, between treatment, and between treatment and treatment time too. The conclusion of this research was topical application of guava leafâs extract gel can induce angiogenesis in the wound healing process of gingival Sprague dawley rats.
