- Pneumonia is an acute respiratory infection that classified to lower respitatory infections (LRIs), and affect in lung parenchyma. The issue of pneumonia need to gain attention and handling of precise especially in the effectiveness of therapy disease pneumonia this is because of an occurrence that is quite high. Research is aimed to know the description of treatment pneumonia with antibiotics in adult patients who hospitalized in the PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital and knowing the effectiveness of therapy in pneumonia disease in adult patient who hospitalized in the PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital. Research used is non-experimental research designs with a retrospective data collection method, that is performed by record the patients medical record data of hospitalized adult pneumonia patients in medical record installation of PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital between 2011 to 2012. Data obtained then processed descriptively about the description of effective therapy based on guideline of the American Thoracic Society in 2001 that used by PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital as a standard medical services. In this study there are 27 patients who meet the inclusion criteria, and there are 17 male patients and 10 female patients. Based on the results of the study, all the medical personnel give antibiotics as it is in the standard medical services of PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital, the most widely used is the azithromicyn of the macrolide antibiotics class by 62,96% and ceftriaxon of the cephalosporine antibiotics class by 55,55%, with the use of antibiotic combination most widely used is the combination of azithromycin and ceftriaxone by 44,44%. Viewed from therapy effectiveness, there are 19 patients who was declared effective in accordance with the parameters of the effectiveness based on the guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia community issued by the Perhimpunan Dokter Paru Indonesia (PDPI) in 2003, and eight patients were found not effective.
