- UK demeanor towards European integration process always becomes interesting observation due to prominent eurosceptic characteristic of the country. The emergence of this eurosceptic demeanor have been caused by UK perspectives on their own different characteristic with continental Europe. Post world war II, UK emerged as dominant power along with US while other European countries conditions worsened due to effect of war. UK identified itself in quite unique position as center of intersection from three geopolitics circle. This three geopolitics circle are relationship between UK and commonwealth countries, special relationship between UK and US, and the latter is UK�s relationship with EU. Under the circumstances when euroscepticism develop in almost every circle of Britons, the ratification policy implented by Gordon Brown on Lisbon Treaty becoming controversial issues. It caused by thehigh politics characteristic of Lisbon Treaty contents, whereas it contains provision about institutional reformation on EU. This reformation more or less will influenced the escalation of EU power. Brown�s choice to preserve ratification policy without referendum process which already promised before in former general election manifestos caused degradation on Briton�s belief towards government. This also becoming critique on 2010 general election campaign which given by opposition group, Conservative Party. How Brown succeeds to ratify Lisbon Treaty among all the controversies become the focus observation brought by this research. At first, this thesis will explain how Brown�s affiliation with New Labour influences his perspective, interest, and commitment as a leader. The shift of vision and value inside Labour Party with the birth of New Labour also becoming Brown�s strong support baseto fulfill Labour Party�s direction
