  • This thesis is entitled \"The Javanese Cartoon of Humor in The Djaka Lodang Magazines \". This study discusses about Javanese cartoon humor in Djaka Lodang magazine published in 2010 to 2011 in linguistics. A number of verbal cartoon (the cartoons which utilize verbal elements such as words, phrases, sentences, and discourses) will be analyzed by using some pragmatic concepts, like the principle of cooperation substitution, the principle of courtesy (politeness principle), and pragmatic parameters that are divided into three, they are, social distance level parameters (distance rating), the level of social status (power rating), and the relative position of said acts (rank rating). This study uses descriptive qualitative method. The results of this study show that in the creation of cartoon humor, cartoonists have utilized the aspects of language by creating irrational characters who do not obey the the principle of cooperation conversation (conversation maxim), such as the quality maxim (maxim of quality), the relevance maxim (maxim of relevance), and the implementation maxims (the maxim of manner). Then cartoonists also created a fictional character that violates the principles of courtesy (politeness principle). The cartoon characters disregarded the principle of courtesy (politeness principle) such as the maxim of wisdom (tact maxim), the maxim of generosity (generosity maxim), the maxim of acceptance (approbation maxim), maxim of humility (modesty maxim), maxim of harmony (agreement maxim), and sympathy of maxim (sympathy maxim). In addition, the irrational character created by cartoonist before was also described as a figure who speaks without seeing the social distance (distance rating), social status (power rating) and the relative position of said acts (rank rating) between itself and the one it talks to when communicating.
