SIMULASI PROSES BENDING DAN STUDI EKSPERIMENTAL MENGENAI PENGARUH BENDING DAN SLAG BALL BLASTING TERHADAP PENINGKATAN SIFAT MEKANIS KNEE JOINT PROSTHETIC

  • Bending is one of cold forming process that is used to make a curve shape at the axis of material and vice versa to straighten it. Slag ball blasting is one of method for increasing mechanical properties of material with followed by the increase of surface hardness and surface roughness. This research was done to observed the effect of bending process and slag ball blasting treatment at mechanical properties and bioactivity of AISI 316L stainless steel as prototype of femoral head knee joint prosthetic. Simulation bending process was done by ABAQUS 6.11. Surface roughness, micro hardness testing, microstructure and bioactivity observation was done at specimen before and after treatment with slag ball blasting. Slag ball blasting was done by rotate the prototype of knee joint prosthetic with < 60 rpm and > 600 rpm as variable inside of a closed chamber. After that, the specimen was blasted by abrasive material (slag ball). The dimension of slag ball that was used is 1 - 2 mm with 5 - 7 kg/cm2 as the pressure of the compressor for 5, 10, and 15 duration of time. Bioactivity observation was done with SBF (simulated body fluid) at room temperature and body temperature. The data was taken at 10th and 20th day at room temperature, and at 2nd ad 5th day at body temperature by used surface roughness testing machine. The result of this research showed that after bending with ABAQUS, specimen has Von Mises stress, displacement, and strain. The highest Von Mises stress is 800 MPa and the lowest is 548 MPa. The highest displacement is 55 mm and the lowest is 23 mm. The highest strain is 1,47 and the lowest is 1,75 x 10-3. Slag ball blasting can increase surface roughness and surface micro hardness. The increased of micro hardness only happened at the surface of the specimen. The highest micro hardness value is 318,84 kg/mm2 and the highest surface roughness value is 5,1 Î1⁄4m. The highest Von Mises stress at bending process is 800 MPa. Surface roughness value at the blasted surface after bioactivity observation decreased until 2,96 Î1⁄4m. The research result also shown that there is a correlation between stress in simulation and hardness value from experimental.
