- The development of thematic map have increased rapidly to visualize statistical data. Statistical data that presented in a map refer to statistical data visualization that reviewed on it�s spatial distribution. The number of population data used to shows in spatial distribution. One of thematical maps is cartogram, this methods used to visualize that data. Cartogam has been known as a methods tovisualize a population in a developed countries. However there are a different condition in Indonesia,. therefore, creation and evaluation of cartogram need to be done. Cartogram was evaluated by comparing it with the thematic map methods are suitable for visualize the population data. Such a comparison is assessed by 50 respondents have been determined based on the purposive criteria that researchers reviewed the purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of cartogram. This research concluded that cartogram less effective when applied on the people who never seen a cartogram before. This condition was usual in Indonesian, cartogram still seldom to encountered. Based on interviews over 50 respondents,there are some information about the people that's still lack of knowledge or understanding about the technical and also the concept of cartogram who makes user difficult to read the information in cartogram.The mindset related administrative region even not a main factor to help user more understand about cartogram. There some factor that's may influence to people understanding using cartogram, there are map readings frequency, knowledge associated on technical and cartogram concept is also a factor in effective communication in kartogram
