- Effects of polyglycerol addition into castor oil (Ricinus communis L.) character as the base material of lubricant has been studied. Polyglycerol was added into castor oil in mass to oil volume variations of 2:20, 3:20, 4:20, 5:20 and 6:20. Polyglycerol as an additive substance obtained from the polymerization of glycerol using KOH as a polymerization catalyst in 190 °C under constant stirring time for 6 hours. The additive substance was then added into the base oil to obtain the lubricant oil product �Top Green RG�. The physical properties of the lubricant were determined based on ASTM method, which were found to have a specific density of 60/60 oF, kinematic viscousity at 40 °C and 100 °C, flash point, and cloud point. The chemical character of the lubricant was then analysed using IR spectroscopy and GC. The result of this study showed that the addition of polyglycerol increase the viscousity of the base oil. The viscousity test showed in accordance with lubricant standard comparing additive and base material at 6:20. This result accordance with MASRI RG lubricant product coqwheel�s industry. This lubricant�s result have excellent specific gravity, index viscousity, gross heating value, and nett heating value, whereas the weakness are flash point and cloud point. The result of Infrared Spectroscopy and Gas Chromatography showed that there are interaction between additive (polyglycerol) and Ricinus communis L. as base material of lubricant and was not formed new molecule as lubricant
