- In this work, alginate/zeolite/Fe composite were carried by alginate solution, zeolite particles, and iron(III). The resulting composite were characterized by infra-red spectrophotometer (FT-IR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The iron(III)-released were tested by soaking the composite in citric acid solution for nine hours. Component of iron(III) dissolved in acid system were quantitatively analyzed by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Chemically, there is hydrogen interaction between alginate and natural zeolite. Based on XRD analysis, alginate has an amorphous properties and natural zeolite has crystalline properties while the alginate/zeolite/Fe composite has semi crystalline properties. SEM and TEM pictures showed that the zeolite particles in polymer phase were uniformly distributed. The profile of iron(III)-released from composites with heavy component of alginate produce three mechanisms, while the profile of iron(III)-released from composites with heavy component of zeolite produce two mechanisms. The more heavier the alginate is or the more heavier the zeolite is, the more slower the moving rate the iron(III) is.
