  • Probiotic is functional food ingredient that have an important role to improve intestinal health and well being of the host. One of itâs mechanism is to maintain the balance of microbial community in the gastrointestinal track. Lactobacillus plantarum Mut7 is the member of local probiotics that was isolated from traditional fermented food (gatot-fermented cassava). Some of local tuber in Indonesia also contain of prebiotic compound and potential to influence in the balance of microbial community in the gastrointestinal track. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of L.plantarum Mut7 and High Fiber of Sweet Potato Powder (HFSPP) diet to the diversity of bacterial community in the digesta of Sprague Dawley Rat in vivo. The treatment consist of control group, L.plantarum Mut7 group, HFSPP group, and both combination (L.plantarum Mut7+HFSPP). Bacterial community of digesta was evaluated with Terminal Restriction Fragment Lenght Polymorfism (TRFLP). Bacterial diversity was analysed with Shannon Wiener Index. Genus and bacterial composition was analysed based on web based software âMICA3â. This study was found that L.plantarum Mut7, HFSPP and both combination (L.plantarum Mut7+HFSPP) decrease the compositions of Bacteroides, increase the richness of species and also increase composition of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium.
