- Background: After the presence of anti-retroviral therapy, the primary goal of HIV management is to improve the quality of life in order to prolong HIV and AIDS patients survival. Combination between conventional medication and Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) that has evidence of safety and efectivity leads to the birth of what is known as integrated medicine. Latihan Pasrah Diri (LPD) is a part of CAM, there has not been any study established to observe the effect of LPD on quality of life in patients with HIV/ AIDS. Aim : This study aimed to determine the effect of Latihan Pasrah Diri on the quality of life improvement of patients with HIV/AIDS. Method : The design of study is quasi-experimental. The samples of study were obtained from Edelweiss Out Patient Clinic, Dr Sardjito Hospital Yogyakarta and Ario Wiryawan Pulmonology Hospital, Salatiga. Data distribution was tested with Shapiro-Wilk statistical test. Variables with normal distribution was tested with paired t test. If the data distribution was not normal, analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test. The difference was considered as significant if p < 0,05 with 95% confidence interval. Hasil : The quality of life was significantly improved in the group of LPD therapy with a mean score of WHOQOL-Bref in social domain 52,53±10,58 vs 64,00±12,56 (p=0,006), environmental domain 48,53±48,35 vs 59,35±12,88 (p=0,002). Meanwhile in the control group, the quality of life decreased in psychological domain 56,00±10,38 vs 50,82±11,73 (p=0,027), social relationship domain 56,53±11,62 vs 50,41±10,89 (p=0,045). There was an increment of the WHOQOL-Bref score difference in three domains that had statistically significant score difference in the LPD group compared to the control group, i.e. the psychological domain 5,76±11,11 vs -5,18±8,63 (p=0,005), social relationship domain 11,47±13,49 vs -6,12±14,89 (p=0,001), environmental domain 11±10,07 vs -3,41±12,44 (p=0,002). There was no significant difference on the overall quality of life in the LPD group 3,35±0,61 vs the control group 3,29±0,47 with a p value = 0,78 and in overall health status in the LPD group, 2,82±0,95 vs in the control group 2,88±0,99 with the value of p=0,978. Conclusion : Latihan Pasrah Diri can improve the quality of life in patients with HIV & AIDS, mainly in psychological domain, social relationship domain, and environmental domain compared to control.
