  • BACKGROUND : Thrombopheresis is an attempt to take thrombocyte and restore other blood component to subject, in which number of thrombocytes are 4-6 times the BC method of whole blood or PRP per unit. Nevertheless, the procedure is rarely performed in Indonesia because of the high cost and not many donors are available since its procedure is heavier than whole-blood donors. Because of its rareness, efficacy of thrombopheresis in recipient has not been known. This prompted the need to investigate the profile of thrombopheresis recipient and its correlation with efficacy of thrombocyte transfusion. PURPOSE : This study aims to identify the profile of thrombopheresis transfusion recipient at RSUP Sardjito and its correlation with efficacy of transfusion. METHOD : This study is a cross-sectional (cross-sectional), descriptive-analytic study. The experiment was conducted at the Blood Transfusion Service Unit (UPTD) and Medical Records Center at RSUP Sardjito. Subjects were thrombopheresis recipients at Sardjito Hospital in August 2012 to January 2013. RESULT : The analysis result showed pre-transfusion thrombocytes count mean of 20 x 103/Î1⁄4L with a median value increase in the number of thrombocytes 50 x 103/Î1⁄4L, where women recipients have a higher post-transfusion thrombocyte count increment. There was no relationship between yield and recipient post-transfusion thrombocyte count increment(p.> 0.05). Recipients aged 20-40 years had the highest thrombocyte count increment. However, no relationship was found between age and the post-transfusion thrombocyte count increment(p.> 0.05). The mean post-transfusion thrombocyte count increment was highest in patients diagnosed without malignancy. There has been no reports of side effects in post-transfusion recipients. CONCLUSION : There was no significant relationship between age, sex, and diagnosis of the recipient, as well as yield transfused with transfusion efficacy. No adverse reactions in recipient was reported after the thrombopheresis transfusion.
