Daftar Isi:
- This thesis is aimed at revealing Occidentalism in L'Europe, Vues d'Afrique through postcolonial study. The collection of short stories in L'Europe, Vues d'Afrique was written by 10 authors from Africa. The history of colonialism in Africa influenced the viewpoint of the society to the colonials. The research is a description of the reaction of the East to modernism of the West. Through Occidentalism theory, it is found that the conception of Africa about Europe is an acknowledgement that the West is the center of civilization and knowledge. The relationship between the West and the East creates equality and intimate relation as well as the critical relation and refusal. This relation appears because there are similarities and differences. The critical relation directs to the Africa's independence on the self independence and whole independence. The awareness to establish an independent nation is difficult to realize because of complex dependency between the East and the West. The unwise and less developed stereotypes still attach to the East. The collection of short stories, L'Europe, Vues d'Afrique, is on the position to criticize the superiority of the West in reaction of colonial society about imperialism. The balance between the West and the East has not been achieved because the East stays inferior and still glorifies the West.
