- Criminal action in society is showing an increasing trend, resulting in an increase of convicts in correctional facility. Correctional facilities is a place where inmates serve their term according to court decisions and is a place considered as stressful. The term of correctional facility/prison has led to fear and stigma that is pleasant for the inmates. Prison may trigger mental disorders in inmates. Female inmates are at greater risk for depression than male inmates. Depression is a common mental disorder identified in inmates, besides psychotic disorders and personality disorders. In the face of situations in life as well as stressful life changes experienced, female inmates should be able to adapt to survive in these conditions. The ability to adjust to changes in life that is called by pressing the resilience. The design for this study was a cross sectional to assess the correlation between resilience and depression in female inmates in Banjarmasin class II A correctional facility. Subjects were female inmates in Banjarmasin class II A correctional facility. Purposive sampling was used in the study. At total of 38 samples were required for study. Subjects were recruited in Banjarmasin correctional facility in November 2013. The instruments used in the study were personal data, Beck Depression Inventory and resilience scale of the Connor Davidson. Data were analyzed with chi-square test, Contingency Coefficient (CC) and logistic regression. Depression was found in 12.5% of the subjects. Resilience does not have a significant relationship with the occurrence of depression (p = 0.642).
