PENGARUH NATURAL DAN ARTIFICIAL AGING PADA VELG BAHAN A356.0 CENTRIFUGAL CASTING TERHADAP SIFAT FISIS DAN MEKANIS

  • The process is a simple compared to the centrifugal casting. From the results quality, the process of centrifugal casting is better than gravity casting. In this study, it used the mold rotation of 300 rpm, 500 rpm, 700 rpm, 900 rpm, 1000 rpm and 1000 rpm + AlTiB. The existed Al-Ti-B inoculant is expected to serve as initiation and limiting the grain growth, therefore, the resulted grain size becomes finer. The finer grain size of the output, the better mechanical properties. T6 heat treatment process is a method to improve the mechanical properties of aluminum alloys. In this study, the A356.0 alloy given solid solution heat treatment at 535 Ë� C temperature that held for 4 hours and followed by natural aging and artificial aging treatments at a temperature of 100 Ë� C, 125 Ë� C, 175 Ë� C and 200 Ë� C that held for 3 hours, and then tested for its impact, tensile, hardness and microstructure. The test results showed the mechanical properties of A356.0 have risen due to the addition of artificial aging temperature. Optimum Hardness value on artificial aging temperature 200 Ë� C and average hardness has raised 12.71%, UTS values rose by average of 13.14%, but the value of toughness decreased by average of 6.29%, and the highest toughness values of 0.068 J/mm2 occurred on lap 500 rpm with artificial aging temperature 100 Ë� C. The observation result on microstructure after T6 heat treatment showed the different morphology at the grain boundary matrix of the aluminum alloy.
