  • Background: The gold standard management of ischemic stroke is using rt-PA in the treatment window of 3-4.5 hours. The importance of treatment window is based on the ischemic penumbra concept, which is the reversible ischemic condition. The functional outcome of stroke can be measured by various ways, one of the tools is the Barthel index score. Objective: The objective of this research study is to find out if the treatment window of ischemic stroke can be used as a predictor of activity daily living measured by Barthel index score on the day of hospital discharge. Method: The study done was an observational study using the cross-sectional design. The data was obtained from the medical record registries of stroke unit in Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta. The time frame to complete this research was from September 2013 till February 2014. The population taken for this research are patients admitted in the year 2012 and obeyed the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Our study found that treatment window was not a significant predictor for Barthel index score on day of hospital discharge. The significant power was 0.196 (>0.05). On the other hand, the confounding factors, body temperature and conscious level, were significant (p-value 0.032 and 0.005) respectively. Conclusion: In our study it is concluded that treatment window of ischemic stroke is not a predictor for activity daily living measured by Barthel index on day of hospital discharge.
