  • Pigeons, both that live in the wild and being kept extensively as fancy breeds or meat producers, commonly seen sharing food with other avian species. This situation enables pigeon to be a reservoir of pathogenic agents that could potentially endanger the health of other avian species and also humans. Studies concerning urinary tract trematode infestation have widely been conducted in several countries in the world but rarely been conducted in Indonesia. Due to this reason, it is necessary to carry out a research on identification of trematode species parasitizing in pigeon’s kidney samples which taken from several cities in Indonesia. Thus, the obtained result is expected to be a basis data for further research concerning identification of trematode species parasitizing in pigeon’s kidney. Ten trematode samples recovered from ten euthanized pigeons for further processing stages. The recovered trematodes were fixed in Alcohol Formal Acetic Acid solution and stained using Semichon's Carmin method. Trematode identification was performed under the stereoscopic microscope. The result reveals morphology features similarity between trematodes used in this research and trematodes of family Eucotylidae, sub family Eucotylinae, genus Paratanaisia, and species Paratanaisia bragai. Moreover, the obtained result also reveals the presence of morphological variation hence further studies concerning Paratanaisia bragai proposed by Freitas in 1959 following morphological characteristics and classification methods need to be done.
