- Background: Every year, millions of people all over the world are saved by blood transfusion. To obtain an optimal result of blood transfusion, it is important to provide safe blood transfusion which is in accordance with the standard and comprehensive workflow, thus increasing the quality of care. Nowadays, blood transfusion uses specific blood component that meet certain requirements. Thrombocyte transfusions are essential to prevent morbidity and mortality in patients who are severely thrombocytopenic and are at risk of spontaneous bleeding. Quality of thrombopheresis product donation in terms of yield, is influenced by aspects from both factors, donor and procedure. A good quality of thrombopheresis product donation will impact the efficacy and thrombocyte recovery of the recipient, thus improving the clinical state. Therefore, it is necessary to elaborate on the profile of thrombopheresis donation. Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze factors from both donor and procedure that affect the quality of thrombopheresis product donation. Methods: Using descriptive analytic study method, 44 samples gathered from data of blood donation and medical record were analyzed to find the correlation between the quality of thrombopheresis product donation in terms of yield and the efficacy of transfusion in terms of absolute count increment. Results: A total of 44 samples were studied. The study showed that pre donation thrombocyte count and volume of thrombopheresis product correlated positively to the yield of thrombopheresis. These results were statistically significant (p<0,05). Yield of thrombopheresis was not correlated to the post transfusion thrombocyte count. Conclusion: Pre donation thrombocyte count and product volume of thrombopheresis influence the yield of thrombopheresis. However, the yield itself has no influence to the post donation thrombocyte count.
