  • Background : Tuberculosis (TB) is a global problem in health. In 2011, there are 8,7 million new cases and 1,4 million death. Indonesia is a high burden country with 680.000 cases. This become more difficult with the MDRTB cases. In Indonesia, estimation of MDR-TB cases is 1,9% among new cases and 12% among re-therapy cases. MDR-TB case encourage researcher to develop a new antituberculosis. One of natural product that available and familiar for Indonesian as a medicinal plant is onion. Objective : to know antituberculosis potency of aqueous extract of onion(Allium ascalonicum L) bulb to Multi Drugs Resistance Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration(MBC)in vitro. Method : This study use descriptive experimental design. The subject is MDR-TB from Tuberculosis Laboratory Microbiology Department FK UGM. This study was conducted using culture method in Middlebrook 7H9 medium then mixed with aqueous extract of onion bulb in 6 different concentration and incubated for 10 days. After that, it was inoculated in LJ medium and observed weekly. Result : The aqueous extract of onion bulb has antituberculosis potency to MDR-TB with MBC <1,5% or <0,03 g/ml.
